Evernote Tutorial - How to Inventory All Your Craft Supplies

evernote tutorial: how to inventory all your craft supplies|positively jane| craft room

What is Evernote?

Evernote is an app for keeping track of anything - only, I love love love using it for my craft supplies. I love it because it syncs with all my devices (I love digital stuff that does that!).

I don’t know about you, but I get really tired of spending my money on duplicate supplies. I struggled to find a good system for my craft supplies. I searched the web for some type of craft room inventory system and I found Evernote. I have never looked back! I have used it for about a year now and love it. A few people asked me how to use Evernote in my Craft Room Organization and Tour video. I put together an Evernote tutorial video - I hope this helps. The Evernote tutorial is here…. or scroll down to the video below.

Keep in mind - an inventory system is only as good as the input. I realized, while I made this video, that I have not been as diligent with keeping up my inventory as I had hoped. Time to get caught up!

How I store my stamps and dies -

I put all of my stamps and dies in Avery Elle Storage Pockets. Avery Elle has many different sizes. I use the large size for the most part and the extra large.. I then cut a piece of inexpensive card stock to go in the storage pocket. I make a bunch ahead of time so that they are all ready when my new product arrives. I also love this Brother P-touch label maker - you can program so that it does not use as much tape at the beginning and the end - little things like that make me happy. :)

I label each stamp set with the company name and then the stamp/die name underneath. For the most part, I store the matching dies behind the stamps. If the dies can be used stand-alone I store them separately and put a label on them, ie; ‘matching die stored in Words and Letters.’ Or ‘matching stamp stored in Sentiments.’

I keep everything in Fridge Binz. I use these 3 sizes - Single skinny. Single Wide. Double. The double ones are perfect for 2 rows of stamps/dies. Someone just told me to use non-skid mats from Lowes - they will keep my pockets from sliding forward. I am looking forward to implementing that.

How does Evernote work?

I like to think of Evernote as 1 large filing cabinet. 1 drawer is devoted to stamps. 1 drawer is devoted to dies. 1 drawer is devoted to every thing else. As a visual - Within my stamp and die ‘drawers’ I have folders with different categories. These ‘drawers’ can be as broad or as detailed as you want.

My stamp categories are -
A. Large Stamp Sets
B. Sentiments only
C. Turnabout Stamps
D. Background Stamps
E. Large Stamps

My die categories are…(I have only a few listed below - I am more detailed in the die ‘drawer’) -
A. Alphabet & Numbers
B. Boxes & Bags
C. Easter
D. Spring
E. Fall and Halloween
F. Christmas/Winter
G. Lawn Fawn
H. Simon Says Stamp

My everything else catagories are…(again just few listed) -
A. Inks
B. Cardstock 12 x 12
C. Cardstock 8.5 x 11
D. Stencils

The beauty about Evernote are the tags. You input the tags for each stamp and die set, paper color, stencil name, image, sentiment, or description. And then, when you search, everything will appear that matches your search. I.e. you have a stamp set with a few different animals - you input the tags - cat, dog, bear, sheep, horse. When you search for horse - EVERY stamp/die/paper that has that tag will appear. Genius! The video will explain in more detail.

My actual inventory -

I do realize that the photos in this post are ‘sub par’ - I just wanted you to see my actual inventory. The video is where the action is anyway!

I used these DVD dividers for the dividers. I cut 1/2” off the bottom.

Video -

I have created a video - hope this helps and is not too confusing :).

Enjoy your organization. And just think of all the money you will save on duplicates…..that you can then apply to new stuff!! Yay for new stuff!

Big Hugs,
